It’s time for us to re-think how we approach New Year’s Resolutions.
Most fail even before the month is up, for various reasons, including lack of understanding about how our body and mind actually work.
This is especially true when it comes to women who are approaching or have passed their reproductive years.
The old models of “eat less, exercise more“, cutting out whole food groups (or all the things you love!), or joining a gym you’ll only visit a few times – these things don’t work long term.
Trust me, I know. I used to manage health clubs back in the day, and I know all about the huge influx of new members in January, why they joined and why they didn’t keep it up.
The little-known truth is that it’s more about momentum than motivation, and rather than huge lofty goals, you are more likely to to succeed with small life hacks, tiny habits you hardly notice that you can easily fit into your day.
Most people don’t realise how little it takes, and especially when it comes to balancing hormones, it’s a case of “less is more‘, or “working out smarter not harder“.
So many women over 40 are actually doing their hormones more harm than good when they over-exercise and under-eat to try to off-set the weight gain they think is inevitable throughout this phase of their life.
Weight gain, along with other symptoms such as hot flashes, may be normal, but they are not inevitable. It is true, of course, that our homones are changing, but that doesn’t mean that they are out of our control.
By making small changes in our diet and exercise programme, as well as paying more attention to our insulin and cortisol levels, we can make a huge impact.
i know this, not just through study, but because I am going through this transition myself at the moment, and I’ve noticed a marked difference in symptoms when I am doing all the things that I know help.
Maybe you know what you should be doing too, but you just aren’t doing it – if this is you, you’re not alone. Habit change isn’t as simple as writing down a resolution; our conditioned patterns, from what and when we eat, to how we sleep, move and live, are hard to change.
This is where I come in.
My passion is to help women as they transition into this next exciting phase of their life re-balance in order to love living in their bodies.
I’ve done the research, I’ve been trying it out myself, and what’s more, I understand behavioural change, so I can help you with strategies to make it simple and sustainable.
I also like to put the joy into everything, as I think we miss that bit far too often!
What made a huge difference for me was re-framing this change of life. This isn’t a steady decline into old age; in many ways, it is an upgrade as we enter the era of wisdom and become true medicine women.
The other thing was understanding the power of life hacks. and what these are for women around my age. It was much simpler than I thought, but it took understanding.
In my workshop at the neginning of January, I aim to help empower, educate and motivate women to learn how to find their balance, how to move, eat and live to honour their natural rhythms, and step into their power with the right movement. diet, mindset, and lifestyle hacks.
