Better Than I Imagined…

Sometimes life doesn’t turn out as you expected.

Sometimes, it turns out better.

There are moments when the path you thought you were walking suddenly changes direction.

At first, it can feel like something has gone wrong.

A plan changes. A door closes. Something you thought you were part of no longer feels like the place you belong.

But I’ve learned not to be quite so afraid of those moments.

Because sometimes what feels like an ending is actually a realignment.

Over the last few months, I’ve found myself questioning quite a lot. About the work I want to do. The people I want to do it with. What wellbeing really means to me after more than 30 years working in this world.

And perhaps most importantly, what kind of world I want to contribute to creating.

I don’t have all the answers.

Actually, I’m less interested in having all the answers than I’ve ever been.

But I do know that I’m increasingly drawn towards collaboration rather than competition.

Community rather than hierarchy.

Nature rather than constant optimisation.

People bringing their different gifts to the table rather than one person standing at the front with all the answers.

And, somehow, all these threads are beginning to come together.

The place I came to years ago because something in me simply knew I needed to be here.

I couldn’t have known then where that decision would lead.

And I certainly couldn’t have predicted the conversations and possibilities that have begun unfolding recently.

But something new is emerging.

It involves this extraordinary part of the world I call home.

It involves health, nature, community, creativity and a different way of thinking about how we live and work together.

And it feels strangely like many of the seemingly unrelated threads of my life have been leading here.

I’m not quite ready to tell you all of it today.

But I will.

For now, I’m enjoying that wonderful feeling of standing at the beginning of something without knowing exactly where it will lead.

Sometimes life doesn’t turn out as you expected.

Thank God for that.
